Liberal Shit
"I've Grown Older & Wiser, That's Why I'm Turning You In,
So Love Me, Love Me, I'm a Liberal"
Phil Ochs - (1940 - 1976)

When Three's the Charm
They lived together in a rustic looking A-Frame house down the road off the lake. There were three of them, Nancy, Cathy and Frankie, all in their early sixties. They were very pleasant, even though townsfolk could tell they were from New York City. The three pretty much kept to themselves and seemed very happy and content with each other living the semi-rural lifestyle here in New England.
Nancy was a trim and fit blonde who looked dynamite in stylish but simple standard corduroy pants and sweater combinations under her tailored navy jacket. The cold, biting New England wind made her complexion even lovelier, complementing her nearly perfect smile.

You Do What You Gotta Do
The radio was quiet, we had just gotten our pizza and were slowly driving toward Madison Square Park to observe lovely women walking to the subway on their way home. The clean and refreshing breeze made the leaves on the trees rustle along with the hum of the city on this fine September day. The late setting sun filtered through the tall buildings and trees casting long shadows and turning the cityscape and those on its streets into a Johannes Vermeer landscape.
It’s a beautiful autumn afternoon in 1982 New York City and I’m loving it!

Got Empathy?
If there was anyone that really, truly and never completely in their entire life never gave a shit (for lack of a better, more descriptive expression) about anything or anyone, it was Lenny. For Lenny’s existence, from his first childhood memory up until this very day, he was classified as a “one way fuck.”
Lenny would say as a matter of fact, that “he really didn’t care about people.” That’s Lenny. He takes no offense, but believes he gives none as well. This overall world view was not rooted in any viciousness or hatred, it was organic and natural.
“Take it or leave it, it’s up to yourself.” There is no other explanation or reason. That’s Lenny, for all of his 60 years of existence. He sailed through his life with a clear conscious and not a worry in the world because he really, truly did not give a shit. “Hey, if I get cancer, what am I going to do? Tough shit, we all gotta die sometime.

Charlie's Secret
Frankie was the first to know Charlie’s secret.
Frankie and Charlie were students at Queens College. In August of 1971, Charlie called Frankie and asked him for a really big favor. Charlie needed an immediate ride into Manhattan to secretly see a doctor.
On the way in, Charlie reluctantly confessed what was going on.
Charlie admitted he was gay and may have contracted anal gonorrhea.
Frankie wasn’t that shocked, He noticed some telltale signs over the past couple of years he had known Charlie, but he never gave it any serious consideration.
"I've always said you were a Liberal Fag" Frankie stoically said.

New York Values
Todd Osborne was the fortyish, balding (with a small pony tail), slightly overweight, left over hippie. He was the owner of a quaint antique/curio shop on Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village. Todd sold all types of jewelry and a myriad of unusual items. He was once a young midwest transplant who escaped to New York City in the late 1960’s.

Buckwheat
Trevor F. X. McDaniles was a perpetually drunk thirty year old resident of the Manhattan Mens Shelter in 1982. He looked like Buckwheat from the Little Rascals kiddie reruns on Channel Eleven. Hence: the street name Buckwheat. He became a seemingly innocuous and friendly part of the cityscape. Buckwheat did not panhandle nor did he bother anyone. He just sat in Madison Square Park and enjoyed taking in the sun. Buckwheat would soulfully sing: "New York City, just like I pictured it, skyscrapers, and everythang! "(He loved Stevie Wonder.)
